Khopra Trek, also known as Khopra Danda trek, is a popular trekking option that is off the beaten track. It is located in the middle of Annapurna. Khopra provides views of the Dhaulagiri (8.167m), Nilgiri (7.061m), Bhara Shikhar (7.647m), Annapurna 1 (8091m), Machhapuchhre (6.997m) and many other peaks that are not listed here.
The Khopra ridge trek is excellent trek for those who only have 10 days to trek, but still want to enjoy a peaceful place to hike. The main sacred destination is Khayer Lake at 4500m (14763ft). Khayer lake trekking is a challenging trek, especially in its last section. It can be found just by jumping on the Annapurna range. This trek is characterized by the friendly faces of local people, their culture and thick rhododendron forests that keep you happy. March through April is the best months for rhododendron blooms.
Khopra Trek Trails offers many routes. The Khopra Trek starts from Kathmandu and ends at departure. You take the Bus to Pokhara the next morning. This is a city near the lake where you will spend the night before you start your trek. The vehicle can be hired to take you to Nayapool. From there, you will start the Khopra trek via Poon Hill trek. This is a nice spot from which you can view the stunning views of Annapurna Himalayan Rrange, and Dhaulagiri Range. Poon Hill is also known by the Mini Annapurna Trek. Deurali is a great place to trek to Dobato. Deurali is where you can split your trek and go to Tadapani or Dobato.
Mulde peak is the best view of Annapurna. It is easy to find the guesthouse from here. You will see fewer people as you make your way towards Bayeli. From Bayeli to Shistibang, the trail descends steeply through thick forest. Continue onwards until you reach Shristinbang. You will reach the Khopra Ridge 3 hours further. You can see the magnificent view from here and far away. Khayer Lake is about a one-day hike from Khopra. Swanta, the next day camp, is where you can relax in Tatopani.
It is a short, easy trek on the Nepal Khopra trek. The view is spectacular from Poon Hill, Mulde Peak, and Khopra. You can see Dhaulagiri (8167m), Tukuche Peak (6800m), Nilgiri (6600m), Annapurna South face (72219m), Hiuchuli (641m), and Nilgiri (6600m). The beautiful, sacred and holy Khayar Lake is located at 4500m below Annapurna South. This view is even closer to Khopra Danda (3660m), but it's very close. The final destination can be reached by hiking for approximately 7 hours to Khayer Lake and 3 hours on Khopra Danda.
Trekkers can travel to Annapurna Khopra trekking from the months of March to June. September to November is an exceptional season, as Annapurna Khopra trek weather conditions are perfect. To start our incredible journey, we will visit historical and religious places around Kathmandu. We will take a visit to Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, Kathmandu Durbar Square etc. If there is some time left, you can go shopping in Kathmandu.
We will start our journey by driving to Pokhara. We will have a wonderful trip, enjoy landscapes with lust forest and river valleys. Pokhara offers beautiful view of mountains as well as other incredible outdoor activities such as boating. We can visit caves, world peace pagoda or waterfall around Pokhara.
After a wonderful day in Pokhara, we will drive to Nayapul and trek to Ghandruk village. For the most time, we will walk on a smooth path covered by rhododendron (laliguras) forest. We will walk along the river and can hear the birds singing. Ghandrukk village offers magical panorama view of mountains and landscapes.
We will continue our journey and trek to Tadapani. This will be an easier trek as Tadapani is not far from Ghandruk village. We will climb path uphill through jungle. On our way, we get magnificent view of Annapurna, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountains. After reaching village, we can visit around the village and interact with local people to know about their culture and tradition.
In this journey, we will walk through rhododendrons and oak forests most of the time. If the favour is in our side, we can also see musk deer, red foxes etc in the forest. We will climb the trail after crossing a forest and continue up and walk along relatively steep path to reach Bayali Kharka.
We will descend the path on a gentle slope. On the way, we will see Danphe, Himalayan Thar, etc. We will climb through alpine tree jungle. We will have beautiful view of the Kaligandaki ridge and mountains like Annapurna, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri.
We will walk through Khopra and after few hours of walking we will reach Lake Khayer. It is a fabulous lake encircled by mountains. From there, we can see beautiful Himalayas. We will then spend our remaining time with the local people and knowing about their culture and tradition.
After breakfast, we will descend back to Swanta village. We will go through barley and potato fields and beautiful villages along the way. The majority of people living in Swanta village is Magar who have different culture and tradition.
On our return journey, we will trek to Ghorepani. We will go down beautiful path covered with green forest. On the journey, we will have the view of the Annapurna range. We will be spending our remaining time with the villagers and exploring their culture and tradition.
We will leave before sunrise and hike to Poon Hill. We will witness the sunrise from Poon Hill which is absolutely phenomenal. We can enjoy sunrise over the Annapurna range. We can observe the peaks turning from pink to gold as the sun rises up in the sky. After witnessing beautiful sunrise, we will trek back to Nayapul from where we will take a bus back to Pokhara city.
After spending a night in Pokhara, we will continue our return journey and drive back to the capital city of Nepal and end our trekking tour.
