Mardi Himal Trek is a relatively new and less-traveled trekking route in the Annapurna region of Nepal, located in the west of Kathmandu Valley. This trek is considered to be a hidden gem of the Annapurna region and offers stunning views of the Himalayas, including Annapurna, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Mardi Himal.
The trek starts from the vibrant city of Kathmandu and takes you on a scenic drive to the picturesque town of Pokhara. From Pokhara, you will drive to Kande, which is the starting point of the trek. The trail passes through lush forests, charming villages, and serene landscapes, and provides a glimpse into the traditional life of the Gurung and Magar communities.
During the trek, you will ascend through rhododendron and oak forests, which offer a spectacular display of flowers in the spring season. The trail then takes you through high alpine pastures and rocky ridges that provide breathtaking views of the Himalayas. This trek is located east of Nepal's legendary trekking areas. The trek to Mardi base camp follows a well-worn trail of Shepherds. In 2012, the official opening of the trek route was made.
Mardi Himal base camp Trek is an alternative to the crowded trekking of Annapurna. It offers stunning views similar to Ghorepani poon hills trek, and it can be done on approximately the same trekking days.
The trek offers stunning views of the Annapurna ranges and is fresh and clean. Mardi Himal Trek is slowly becoming popular due to its beauty and it is one of the shortest treks with less crowded and unspoiled serenity than other trekking. This unusual trail takes you through beautiful glacial valleys, magical scenery, sparkling rivers, lush green terraced fields, and other interesting places.
The trek begins from Pokhara, goes through Kande and Deurali, Low Camp, High Camp, and Mardi Himal Base Camp.
Our staff will pick you up from Tribhuvan International Airport and drop off to your hotel. It will a short drive from the airport to the hotel.
After breakfast, we will leave to explore Kathmandu and visit different religious and historical places. Kathmandu alone holds four of the UNESCO World Heritage sites which is amazing. We will be visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath and Swayambhunath in the day.
To kick off our journey, we will drive to Pokhara. During the journey, we can enjoy the beautiful terraced farms, little shops on the roadside. Pokhara is also known as city of lakes as it has many lakes where we can go boating. It also offers magnificent view of mountain including Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) etc.
Early in the morning, we will drive to Kande and then trek to Pothana. From Kande, the trek ascends through rhododendron (laliguras), oak, sandalwood forests until we reach a village called Dhampus which is a very beautiful village. It is a Gurung community village providing excellent view of the Annapurna range. After that we will further ascend along stone-paved path and mossy trees.
After breakfast, we will leave for Forest Camp. We will enter enchanted forest of birch, rhododendron (laliguras), oak and hemlock. We will also get stunning views of the mountain throughout the day. Once we reach Forest Camp, we will rest for the day.
We will leave for Badal Danda early in the morning. In this trek, we will get a marvelous view of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain. We will ascend up and reach a forest which offers enjoyable panoramic views of Hiunchuli. We will also see Modi Khola valley in the Annapurna sanctuary.
After a night in Badal Danda, we will trek towards High Camp. At the beginning of the trek, we have to climb short and steep climb. High Camp is out of the forest and it offers spectacular view of the Annapurna.
It will a long day than the previous days so we must be ready early compared to other days. Today, we will reach an altitude of 5000m and once we reach there, we can see the great ice fields and blue glaciers of the sanctuary wall below us. We will also see and enjoy the unique and fabulous view of the mountains. After enjoying, we will descend down towards middle camp.
After conquering Mardi Himal Base Camp, we will trek down to Siding and drive back to wonderful city Pokhara.
On our return journey we will again drive back to the capital city Kathmandu. The drive will offer beautiful landscapes and mountains view from the window seat
